During the Dakar Rally, Mike Horn became aware of the environmental impact of the competition and wanted to demonstrate that high performance is possible without relying on fossil fuels. At the same time, Mauro Ricci, founder of AKKA Technologies, recognized the evolving need for high-power decarbonized energy. These visions converged around the GEN Z project, carried out in collaboration with the CEA, a leading research center in fuel cells.
INOCEL was founded to accelerate the production of high-power hydrogen technologies. The company quickly established its governance by appointing an advisory board and naming Jules Billiet as CEO, and then completed its first fundraising round of €16.5 million.
